Fracture tellurique, fracture historique – à Salamine, à Axion, à Lepante –, fracture démographique et même fracture philosophique, entre la pensée magique et la pensée logique, c'est-à-dire l'Orient et l'Occident, mais en même temps à la fois à l'Est et à l'Ouest, de l'Égypte à Moïse, et puis Jésus, et puis Mohammed, d'Omar Khayyâm à Baudelaire, des plateaux de la Syrie aux plaines du Languedoc.
