Decision 2002/348/JHA should be revised and updated in the light of experience in recent years, such as the European Championships in 2004 and the experts' assessment of international police cooperation in the framework of that championship and extensive police cooperation in respect of international and club matches in Europe generally.

17. Calls on Member States, football governing bodies and football clubs to make a commitment to the protection of the health and safety of workers and to take the player as a factor in regulating the sporting calendar, setting a maximum number of games to be played per season not including games played for the national side; calls on the Commission to ensure that relevant health and safety and employment legislation applies to footballers as it would do in regard to any other worker in the EU;

The list of Group B events for secondary coverage include: Cricket Test matches played in England; non-Finals play in the Wimbledon Tournament, all other matches in the Rugby World Cup Finals Tournament; Five Nations Rugby Tournament Matches involving home countries; the Commonwealth Games; the World Athletics Championship; the Final, the semi-finals and matches of the Cricket World Cup involving home nation teams; the Ryder Cup; the Open Golf Championship.

Taking into account recent experiences in connection with the European Championships in 2012 and the World Cup 2014, the development of established good practice in the framework of those tournaments, extensive police cooperation in relation to international and club matches in Europe generally and the views of over 300 police practitioners (match commanders, National Football Information Point personnel and other football policing specialists) from the 25 European countries that participated in the Pan-European Football Policing Training Project between 2011 and 2014, the EU Football Handbook has been revised and updated.
