It has already been stated here that there are more women undergraduate students in universities than men; this is also true of Master’s and Doctoral degree students – there are more women.

At the launch of the second cycle of the Lisbon Strategy, or the second Lisbon cycle, the European Council stressed that in the period between 2008 and 2010 we must direct all our efforts primarily towards consistent implementation of the reforms.

Recent statistics show that in 2004 only 3.3% of students in the European Union were postgraduates, the Czech Republic, Austria and Finland being in the lead with a figure of 7% and over 50% of postgraduates in the EU coming from France, the United Kingdom and Spain.

The scholarships at the graduate level that the federal government offers can certainly support a lot of graduate studies and the students entering into these areas where they get advanced training at the graduate level.

4. Acknowledges, records and draws attention to the worrying financial problems encountered by more than 57% of Erasmus students, particularly those from countries where State funding of students is lowest, who normally live with their parents in their home country - about one third of Erasmus students - and are thus largely dependent on their parents" contributions; condemns any internal discrimination practised in Member States' higher education systems, in particular by national agencies through the criteria applied when selecting students in higher education;
