(2) Si les plats-bords sont en deux longueurs, les joints seront placés au tiers environ de la longueur de l’embarcation, compté à partir de l’étrave ou de l’étambot, aux extrémités opposées, et pourront être rivetés ou soudés; s’ils sont rivetés, la pièce d’appui sera de section angulaire et aura l’épaisseur du plat-bord et une longueur d’au moins huit fois la profondeur du plat-bord; toutefois, une soudure convenable par rapprochement pourra être employée sans barre d’appui.
(2) If gunwales are fitted in two lengths, the joints shall be placed at approximately one third of the length from the stem or stern of the boat and at opposite ends of the boat and may be riveted or welded and, if riveted, the backing-up piece shall be angular in section, of the thickness of the gunwale, and the length shall be not less than eight times the depth of the gunwale but a suitable butt weld may be used without backing-up bar.
