One could include people in remote areas who have similar interests, even in parts not in the North, to try to achieve representation in those parts, but the North as represented by the Inuit and Aboriginal populations, which are more concentrated there, have a special status as a region within the country with unique interests and a unique basis with, as you mentioned, climate change and such things being particularly relevant to them.

Supt Mike Buisson: If they are carrying firearms that would not otherwise be authorized to enter Canada, there is a mechanism in place that has been set up with the full concurrence of the Prime Minister's Office, to wit, the members of the foreign police agencies or secret service or whatever can ask the Commissioner of the RCMP for specific permission and give the reasons why they would like to enter Canada with their firearms, at which time some of these members may be accorded special status, supernumerary constable status, while in Canada.

There should be absolutely no special status granted because of the area of the world in which one trained.

It's not a prerequisite for meriting special status, and it's not the question of a conjugal relationship that deserves special status, it's what else that brings to society.

These enjoy a special status according to art. 299(2) of the Treaty, because they share a series of unique characters, impeding their development and the catching up with other regions of the Union: they are remote and landlocked, have a tropical or sub-tropical climate, while their neighbour countries belong to the less developed ones.

Have you found any difficulty in making the case to the federal government that even though it isn't a special statutory region like the District of Columbia and that in many other territories, the national capital is something more than an Ontario city on the Ottawa River?
