In light of international negotiations of a global climate change agreement for the period post 2012, the Commission will further assess the situation of energy-intensive industries and might propose adjustments in particular in terms of free allocation or inclusion of imported products in the Community's Emission Trading Scheme.

- Promote sectoral approaches in international climate negotiations as an element of and complement to comprehensive international climate change agreement for the period after 2012.

This exchange of views and experience outside the negotiating context will help to support the ongoing process under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), contribute to the convergence of visions between Europe and developing countries and feed into the development of a post-2012 climate agreement.
