Tout d’abord, l’UE est présente en permanence sur le terrain - la seule présence internationale après le départ des missions de l’OSCE et des Nations unies - via la mission de surveillance de l’UE (EUMM en Géorgie ) afin de contrôler l’application des accords de cessez-le-feu des 12 août et 8 septembre 2008, qui restent à mettre en œuvre, et de contribuer à la stabilisation et à la normalisation de la situation dans les zones affectées par la guerre, ainsi que d’observer la conformité avec les droits de l’homme et l’état de droit.
First of all, through the continued presence on the ground - the only international presence after the OSCE and UN missions had to be discontinued - of the EU Monitoring Mission (EUMM in Georgia) in order to monitor the implementation of the ceasefire agreements of 12 August and 8 September 2008, which remains to be fulfilled, and to contribute to the stabilisation and the normalisation of the situation in the areas affected by the war, and to observe the compliance with human rights and the rule of law.
