I also support the amending proposal, which will have the following objectives: to harness the know-how of liaison officers and of Frontex for their mutual benefit; to exploit the information obtained through the liaison officer networks and exchange this via ICONet (secure Information and Coordination Network for Member States’ migration management services); to access the External Borders Fund to promote the creation of liaison officer networks and facilitate their operation; and, lastly, to expedite the system for the presentation of the half-yearly reports.

Alternately, a supporting country may agree to have a liaison prosecutor/judge or other body with prosecutor power available on call to travel to the organising country at its request, or appoint a designated liaison prosecutor / judge or other body with prosecutor power for liaison with the organising authority.

22. Further activities were launched during 2007, namely further work on the possibility of greater FRONTEX involvement in the development of liaison officer networks, and the publication of the second annual report on the common policy on illegal migration.

The Commission approved two motorway projects in Spain: part of the route across Catalonia (between Cervera and Santa María del Camí), and the Zaragoza ring road, which will serve to link the various major routes which converge at Zaragoza, in line with the priorities of pressing forward with the link routes to France and connecting the trans-European road networks.

(30) Economic globalisation means that environmental action is increasingly needed at international level, including on transport policies, requiring new responses from the Community linked to policy related to trade, development and external affairs enabling sustainable development to be pursued in other countries.
