Ce principe consiste à extraire la chaleur du sous-sol en mettant en place un circuit artificiel de circulation d'eau : injectée froide par un puits de forage, l'eau circule dans la masse rocheuse par l'intermédiaire d'un réseau de fractures créées à partir de petites fractures naturelles et ressort en surface à température élevée, par un second forage. Le but du projet franco-allemand qui vient d'être lancé est de déterminer la faisabilité d'une exploitation basée sur ce principe à Soultz/Forêts.
This entails extracting the underground heat by setting up an artificial water circulation system whereby cold water is injected into a borehole, the water then permeates the mass of rock through a network of fractures created from small natural fractures and then, at a much higher temperature, the water returns to the surface via a second borehole. The purpose of this new Franco-German project is to determine whether it would be feasible to apply this principle to the Soultz/Forêts reservoir.
