Récemment, la Commission a, de façon surprenante, annoncé qu'elle entendait retirer le règlement actuel en 2013, affirmant qu'une décision du groupe spécial de l'OMC dans l'affaire "Cool" (Country of Origin Labelling, concernant le bœuf et le porc) avait eu pour effet de modifier la jurisprudence de l'OMC au point de rendre la proposition initiale de règlement sur l'indication du pays d'origine incompatible avec les règles de l'OMC.
