President Prodi welcomes the report of the EU-US Biotechnology Consultative Forum

(1) Whereas new information has been published in the United Kingdom further supporting the hypothesis that exposure to the bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) agent is linked to the new variant of Creutzfeldt Jacob Disease (CJD) in humans; whereas on 16 September 1997 the Spongiform Encephalopathy Advisory Committee (SEAC) of the United Kingdom concluded that recent research provided compelling new evidence that the agent which causes BSE is identical to the agent which causes the new variant of CJD in humans; whereas on 18 September 1997 the Advisory Committee on Dangerous Pathogens (ACDP) concluded that the BSE agent should now b ...[+++]e classified as a human pathogen;

1. pursuant to an international agreement concluded in conformity with the Treaty between a Member State and one or more third countries and covering supplies, works, services or design contests intended for the joint implementation or exploitation of a project by the signatory States; every agreement shall be communicated to the Commission, which may consult the Advisory Committee for Public Contracts set up by Council Decision 71/306/EEC (13) or, in the case of agreements governing contracts awarded by entities exercising an activity defined in Article 2 (2) (d), the Advisory Committee on Telecommunications Procurement referred to in ...[+++]Article 39;

The Commission, believing that the attached recommendations on training in cancer adopted by the Advisory Committee on Medical Training, the Advisory Committee on Training in Nursing, and the Advisory Committee on the Training of Dental Practitioners, constitute a good basis for the widest possible discussion in the Member States, makes the following recommendation pursuant to the EEC Treaty, and in particular the second indent of Article 155 thereof:
