We argued at that time that as the international community grappled with the social implications to the globalization of the world economy, there was an obligation to ensure that the emerging new trading rules protected not only the legitimate rights of international investors, but also the legitimate rights of labour, especially the basic human rights of vulnerable groups such as child labourers.
