Recognises the current importance of the European Union’s support, totalling EUR 159 million, for 34 projects on neurodegenerative diseases; considers it essential, nevertheless, in the context of the forthcoming 8th RDFP, to address the fragmented nature of research, particularly that on Alzheimer’s, and to include projects in the insufficiently explored fields of non-drug, behavioural and cognitive therapies;

Current treatments are based on the use of medication that seeks to mitigate or stabilise the symptoms associated with behavioural and cognitive changes among patients.

The treatment that I understand has the best end results, from what I've read in different studies, is the cognitive behaviour therapy, is that correct?

The first petition is signed by 66 people from the Calgary area who call on Parliament to amend the Canada Health Act to ensure intensive behavioural intervention therapy treatment, based on the principles of applied behavioural analysis, is designated as medically necessary for children with autism, and that academic chairs be established at universities in each province to teach this therapy, ensuring that Canadian professionals will no longer have to leave Canada to receive the training.

Larry Bagnell (Yukon, Lib.): Mr. Speaker, pursuant to Standing Order 36, the second petition, which was provided to me by the hon. member for Don Valley West, is from 26 people who, similar to a previous petition, want to amend the Canada Health Act and regulations to include intensive behavioural intervention therapy for children with autism as medically necessary treatment and to contribute to the creation of academic chairs to teach applied behavioural analysis and the resulting intensive behavioural intervention therap ...[+++]y for graduates and undergraduates in Canadian universities.
