The audit did not look at things like the role of the secure channel or the provision of common services.

In conjunction with the lead security agencies, the RCMP, the CSE, and PSEPC, as well as with the participation of Public Works and Government Services Canada, TBS is moving towards the provision and use of common and shared IT infrastructures and services solutions, for example, the Secure Channel, common intrusion detection and incident management solutions, and the sharing of threat and vulnerability information.

Is concerned, however, at the long delay recorded in the completion of the Natura 2000 network and the negative consequences this entails for both the more precise estimate of its funding requirements and the more effective planning and coordination of the actions it comprises; regrets that the Commission's communication does not provide a more precise estimate of the costs of the Natura 2000 network, and that insufficient account has been taken of the fact that the forthcoming enlargements of the Union will indeed entail a reduct ...[+++]ion in resources for the network, given that a larger protected area will have to be subsidised from the same amounts; calls on the Commission, in this context, to draw up a new and more precise estimate which includes the real costs of the Natura 2000 network;

The conclusions are: first, strengthening the implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity and monitoring progress towards achieving the 2010 biodiversity target; secondly, making progress in implementing the programme of work on protected areas of the Convention on Biological Diversity, and in particular on its objective to establish a global network of comprehensive, ecologically representative and effectively managed national and regional protected area systems.

20. Considers that the programme aimed at enhancing the protection of species and habitats in European waters (Action 2) should not be awaited until 2005 and that European action should contribute to the establishment of the network of marine protected areas called for by WSSD; other appropriate measures worthy of recognition would include the commitments to the establishment of a representative network of well-managed marine protected areas in the North Sea by 2010 (Bergen Declaration) and the North East Atlantic Ocean (including on the high seas) and Baltic Sea in the context of the OSPAR Convention and the Helsinki Convention on the ...[+++]Protection of the Marine Environment of the Baltic Sea Area (HELCOM) (forthcoming Joint OSPAR/HELCOM Ministerial Declaration);
