2. As regards the raising of the age limits for BSE testing in bovine animals, the report states that for the remaining Member States ( a rise may only be considered after a risk assessment. As from January 2013, the Commission has introduced a rule for sample size testing instead of general testing for healthy slaughtered animals above 72 months. Only if sample sizes are chosen on the basis of a scientific evaluation can it be assured that no BSE cases will be missed under the surveillance regime.
