Article 24 introduces the possibility for students and researchers, if they fulfil the general admission conditions of the proposal (except for the condition on being a minor), to stay in the Member State for 12 months upon finalization of their studies/research in order to look for work or set up a business.

After finalisation of research or studies in the Member State, third-country nationals shall be entitled to stay on the territory of the Member State for a period of 12 months in order to look for work or set up a business , if the conditions laid down in points (a) and (c) to (f) of Article 6 are still fulfilled.

For the right to receive unemployment benefits, this would include an extension from three to six months of the permitted time spent abroad searching for work.
