In technological terms, Enel Distribuzione’s project is state-of-the-art thanks to the make-up of the components to be used to establish smart grids and improve the existing traditional grids (tension sensors; actuators to interrupt and re-establish electrical current both under normal operating conditions and when there is a breakdown; innovative microprocessor protection systems, static storage systems and grid regulation systems; WiFi communications infrastructure, WiMax and fibre optics to support operating systems, emergency management and opportunity management).

Such costs relate to the ordering and provisioning of access to civil engineering infrastructure or fibre; operating and maintenance costs for IT systems; and operating costs associated with wholesale product management.

Hon. Keith Martin: As to the tactical data links your commanders have to use in the field, are we in this process pursuing C4ISR with a view as to what our technological capacities with our allies are Britain, the U.S., and others so in the field we do have that technological interoperability that is so essential to your commanders in the field?

The Commission also looked at a number of possible vertical links between, on the one hand, BAES’ sub-systems for ACV (such as communication, command and control systems, weapon systems, fire control systems and electro-optical systems) and, on the other hand, the new entity’s ACV activities.

Once a trans-European implementation plan is completed, all activities related to installation of control-command subsystems have to be justified by the contracting entities against this implementation plan in addition to all other applicable legislative requirements that are in force.

That suggests to me that on the maritime side we would possibly not be looking for any lead, either territorially, geographically or as it relates to command and control.
