What Canada has said in response to the issue of rights in a statement of defence is, as far as the plaintiffs go, the Manitoba Denesuline, or any of them, use or occupy land north of the 60th parallel of latitude for the purpose of hunting, trapping or fishing, then the said Indians do not do so as of right but instead under licence of the crown, express or implied.
