On examining the proposal for a directive of the European Parliament and of the Council intended to recast Council Directive 78/25/EEC of 12 December 1977 on the approximation of the laws of the Member States relating to the colouring matters which may be added to medicinal products, the working party noted, by common accord, that, in Article 2, the words ‘the general and specific criteria of purity’ should be replaced by the words ‘the general specifications for aluminium lakes ...[+++] of colours and the specific criteria of purity’.

FOODSTUFFS - COLOURS The Council signified its agreement by a qualified majority (with the Danish delegation voting against) to the substance of the common position on the Directive on colours for use in foodstuffs.

FOODSTUFFS - ADDITIVES AND SWEETENERS After examining a request from the Danish delegation concerning the addition of certain sweeteners to certain types of white cheese, the Council formally adopted the three common positions (on which it had given its political agreement at its meeting on 27 September 1993 (see press release 8700/93 (Presse 151)) on the Directives: - on colours for use in foodstuffs (by a qualified majority, with the Netherlands and Luxembourg voting against and Germany and Denmark abstaining); - amending Directive 89/107/EEC on the approximation of the laws of the Member States concerning food additives authorized fo ...[+++]r use in foodstuffs intended for human consumption (unanimously); - on sweeteners for use in foodstuffs (unanimously).
