I've come here today to say no: to say no to the so-called principles that were embodied in the former MAI; to say no to the entrenchment of the principles of the MAI in the WTO; to say no to the current uses and activities of the WTO; to say no to the free trade area of the Americas; to say no to the North American Free Trade Agreement; to say no to the Canada-U.S. Free Trade Agreement; and indeed, to say no, a fundamental no, to the entire direction in which capitalism has been moving in the last 10 to 20 years.

18. Invites OSCE participating countries and partner states for co-operation to intensify their efforts under the Barcelona Process and to more fully benefit from the MEFTA Initiative in order to expedite the establishment of a free-trade area among all Mediterranean countries.

5. Calls on the Commission to consider possible counter-measures which the EU could evoke if Russia breaks WTO trade rules for short-sighted political ends; emphasises that, while Russia should not be given the chance to veto the political choices of the Eastern Partnership countries, the EU must be ready and willing to engage over Russia’s legitimate concerns and interests, in particular as regards trade and commercial interests; reiterates, however, that, unlike the Customs Union championed by Russia, the EU’s agreements with the Eastern Partner countries on a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) do not prohibit the latter ...[+++]from engaging in free trade with third countries; points out, therefore, that following the signing of an association agreement including a DCFTA, Eastern Partners will still be able to conduct free trade with Russia under the free trade agreements currently signed as part of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS); states, therefore, that Russia must drop its ‘us or them’ rhetoric in intimidating the Eastern Partners from seeking closer relationships with the EU;

Recalls that the Association Agreements and DCFTAs are aimed at boosting the competitiveness, economic output and performance of partner countries and of the EU, while at the same time respecting the Eastern Partnership countries’ economic cooperation with Russia in a way that is beneficial to all parties; points out that, as such, the Association Agreements and DCFTAs do not undermine the long-standing trade relations which Eastern Partnership countries maintain in the region; believes that, on the contrary, they should not be seen as incompatible with those trade relations, and that, without prejudice to the obligations stemming from the Association Agreements and DCFTAs, any trade disputes should be resolved in accordance with the r ...[+++]ules and obligations laid down in the World Trade Organisation; affirms, furthermore, that the EU is ready to assist Eastern Partnership partners in their integration efforts by supporting the provisional application of the relevant sections of the Association Agreements or DCFTAs upon signature, unfreezing suspended loans and assistance programmes if the required conditions are met, pursuing visa facilitation measures and the prospect of visa-free travel;
