As it was making heavy losses for years and no improvement was possible, EFIM was wound up in 1992 and sold its last subsidiaries Aviofer/Breda Costruzioni Ferroviarie to Finmeccanica, after a restructuring aid of Lit 483 billion (ECU 254 million) for these companies.
