Commends the French Presidency of the Council for ensuring that the European Union has played a key role in bringing an end to the war in Georgia; calls on the Union, and in particular on its Special Representative, to uphold the principle of Georgia’s territorial integrity and respect for minorities, whilst endeavouring to reach a settlement which provides for efficient mechanisms for the safe return of internally displaced persons and refugees and for effective monitoring of the region’s security;
