For a state visit of a foreign head of state to Canada, ceremonial elements may include an official welcome by the Governor General, military honours at Government House or the Canada Reception Centre, usually depending on the time of the arrival, a tree-planting ceremony at Government House, an official welcome on Parliament Hill, a 21-gun salute, wreath laying at the National War Memorial or the Peacekeeping Monument, a state dinner or luncheon, flag street lining in Ottawa, and red carpet for arrival and departure.

Notes that the constantly growing population of older people, with their specific needs in terms of goods and services, can provide a fresh economic impetus for regional development, which can in turn unlock new potential for regions with growing numbers of older people; points out that this situation can be seen as an opportunity for new jobs in a growing market for new products and services which improve the quality of life of older people, for economic growth and for improving the EU's competitiveness, this being the so-called ‘silver economy’ approach; encourages the Member States and regional authorities to make use of the Stru ...[+++]ctural Funds to this end, and calls on the Commission to support, within the framework of Territorial Cooperation (Article 7(3) of Council Regulation (EC) No 1083/2006 of 11 July 2006 laying down general provisions on the European Regional Development Fund, the European Social Fund and the Cohesion Fund, the exchange of experience between regions in which the ‘silver economy’ already plays a major role or where it will do so in future;

The written declaration will be performed in a private office, whether the residence of the Governor General; the office of the delegate of the Governor General, who has traditionally been a justice of the Supreme Court; or someone else down the road who the Governor General, according to the Letters Patent, may decide to appoint for the specific exercise of that constitutional responsibility of the Governor General.

Now that the westward looking government has been ousted and Chernomyrdin has taken over as governor with the title ambassador to Kiev, it is obvious that we have made strategic blunders which we must not underestimate and which – to my chagrin – we have not discussed even once in the General Council this week.
