Finally, the European Community Opera for Young Singers (comprising 160 singers, chorus, orchestra, producers, etc.), will make its debut on 21 May 1989 at La Fenice Theatre in Venice under the leadership of Riccardo CHAILLY and with production by Jean-Pierre PONNELLE.

Young singers, all under thirty years of age, will be selected by means of auditions organised at national level in each country of the Community in the presence of a national Jury and the General Director of the Opera, Helga SCHMIDT, artistic consultant to Covent Garden.
