The Maastricht special arrangement of 2002, as revised in 2007 , provides the technical and regulatory framework for the deployment of terrestrial DAB (T-DAB) in the 1 452-1 479,5 MHz band in signatory countries including all Member States.

Access to broadband, however, varies markedly across the EU and across regions within countries, the least prosperous areas having least access, and this seems set to continue into the future.

The European experts in the Signal Task Force were able to show their American colleagues that there would be no harmful interference between the signals of the European system and those of the GPS system and that the two systems are technically perfectly compatible, including in terms of time references and geodesy.
