Le choix du site de ponction doit être fait en fonction du risque de complications infectieuses et/ou mécaniques (p. ex. pneumothorax, hémothorax, perforation de l'artère sous-clavière, lésion de la veine sous-clavière, thrombose, embolie gazeuse, mauvaise mise en place du cathéter).
De keuze van de punctieplaats wordt bepaald door het afwegen van het risico op zowel infectieuze als mechanische complicaties (bijvoorbeeld pneumothorax, hemothorax, het doorprikken van de arteria subclavia, beschadiging van de vena subclavia, trombose, luchtembool, het verkeerd plaatsten van de katheter).
