With the border becoming less important, with attitudes changing, if the pendulum swings too far in the direction of a huge tax gap between Canadians and Americans—and tax gaps matter, they're not by any means the only factor, but neither are they unimportant—if the pendulum swings toward massively higher taxes on higher-income people in Canada compared with the U.S., we will pay a price gradually over time in terms of companies and people leaving this country, and that will then hurt our economy, hurt our standard of living.
