If Devco were privatized and not saddled with the liability of the successor rights of the existing union contracts today, or the huge liability going all the way back to the Dominion Steel and Coal Company which succeeded Devco, and if a private company could buy the assets of Devco and operate it without those liabilities and without the huge environmental liability that has accumulated over the years, which everybody has been trying to ignore, coal mining could be profitable in Cape Breton.
Si la Devco était privatisée et si la nouvelle société n'avait pas l'obligation du successeur d'appliquer les conventions collectives existantes, si elle était libérée également de la dette énorme remontant à l'époque de la société Dominion Steel and Coal qui avait précédé la Devco, et si une entreprise privée pouvait acquérir l'actif de la Devco et l'exploiter sans ces dettes et sans l'énorme passif environnemental qui s'est accumulé au fil des années, et que tout le monde a tâché de passer sous silence, l'exploitation du charbon pourrait être rentable au Cap-Breton.
