Our whole education system - from the vocational schools to the specialised institutes, from the local primary schools to the most prestigious and established universities - must be developed and made fit to survive in the new social and economic reality.

The aim is to the examine the main challenges that the 12 Mediterranean Partners of the European Union have to face and, in particular, the four following themes: - agricultural management of water: support for water saving methods, promotion of cultivation requiring low water consumption, techniques for the re-use of water, fight against pollution and salinisation. - domestic and industrial water: water supply and purification networks, treatment and re-use of waste water in urban and industrial zones; - the reinforcement of competent institutions: definition of a clear framework using common standards, the decentralisation of responsibilities and the re-inforcement of methods of water management, the modernisation of networks for measuri ...[+++]ng and analysis, the creation of data bases and establishment of water pricing policies; - the initial and continuous training of professionals in the water sector: the development of national technical training centres, the production of teaching material, the use of modern methods such as telematics and multimedia, possibly in the framework of a co-operation network among specialised institutions in the Mediterranean.
