It has been the primary focal point for the EU’s contribution in the G8 Global Partnership against the spread of weapons and materials of mass destruction, which is focussed upon securing, dismantling and destroying nuclear and chemical weapons-related materials and facilities, and on the reconversion of the expertise formerly involved in the weapons programmes in the former Soviet Union.
