The fact that this prize was initially put forward for two Belarusian organisations – the second organisation was the youth organisation ZUBR – is probably a sign that Belarus is the focus of international attention and that my country, which one of my colleagues has described as a chess piece which has fallen off the chess board, will once again become an independent entity in European politics and will one day take a worthy place among the other nations around the European table.
Le fait que deux organisations bélarusses aient tout d’abord été pressenties pour l’attribution de ce prix - la deuxième étant l’organisation ZUBR pour la jeunesse - montre probablement que le Belarus est au centre de l’attention internationale et que mon pays, dont l’un de mes collègues a dit qu’il était comme une pièce d’échecs tombée de l’échiquier, redeviendra une entité indépendante au sein de la politique européenne et qu’un jour il jouera un rôle honorable, parmi les autres nations, sur l’échiquier européen.
