Supports the Commission’s objective to further develop integrated care and cure systems; taking into account the appropriateness of existing, preferred and future care and cure systems in relation to their further development and having due regard to the subsidiarity principle in the field of public health, invites Member States and competent authorities to develop national, regional and local care and cure systems that incorporate a holistic and integrated approach to the management of age-related diseases; invites the Commission to assist Member States in this regard, while respecting regional and local differences in citizens’ e ...[+++]xpectations, norms and values; encourages the Commission to make use of the European Medicines Agency’s work on medicines in older people and to integrate it in order to improve access to safe and adequate medicines for older patients;

Underlines that the key objective of any AMR strategy is to maintain the efficiency of existing antimicrobials by using them responsibly at the correct therapeutic level only when strictly necessary and prescribed over a specific time at the appropriate dosage, and reducing the use of antimicrobials in general and especially of Critically-Important Antimicrobials (CIAs) in human and veterinary medicine, thereby also taking into account the OIE List ; underlines the absolute need for an active holistic approach, based on a 'One Hea ...[+++]lth' perspective, in order to achieve better and more efficient coordination between the human health sector and the veterinary sector; calls for enhanced surveillance of the use of antimicrobials in babies and young children, as well as in clinical treatment, where there is a need to control and measure antimicrobial use;

Some of the information, I have to say, comes from medical doctors who practice holistic medicine and are interested in achieving and ensuring a proper balance between so-called prescription drugs and so-called natural health products, which is not the case at the moment under what is being proposed here.

We must, however, also ensure that the aspects of alternative medicine, complementary medicine, or holistic medicine can be integrated into our decision-making processes.

The Commission is still considering the possibility for a holistic approach for amending the current legislative framework for veterinary medicinal products (mainly Directive 81/851/EEC), in order to try to solve as a whole the availability problems of medicinal products intended to be used in horses and in all the other so called “minor species”.

On the other hand, in the context of holistic medicine we look upon health as being the primary goal and being the natural state of people and we gear our methodologies towards the promotion of health.
