Coordinator International Women's Affairs

Those are ones that have to do with discrimination, whether they be under Status of Women Canada with regard to the convention to eliminate discrimination against women, when we look at the United Nations human rights act, when we look at certain other conventions on discrimination with regard to multiculturalism and with regard to the rights of the individual and society as a whole, the rights of the child and the rights of the girl child, women's rights as human rights. We have signed onto all these conventions as a country, and therefore our ability to fulfil our obligations are also inherent in what we do.

Those are still supposed to be the department's priorities. To achieve those three priorities, Status of Women Canada worked to ensure that legislation, policies and programs advanced women's equality throughout the federal government; conducted gender-based analysis of legislation, policies and programs, and recommended changes to ensure that government decisions were of benefit to all Canadians, women and men equally; promoted the implementation of gender-based policy analysis throughout the federal government; promoted and monitored the progress of the status of women throughout the country; funded policy research and integrated the research findings into the policy development process; provided financial, technical and professional ...[+++] assistance to women's and other voluntary organizations at community, regional and national levels, to support actions which advanced women's equality; and collaborated with provincial and territorial governments, international organizations and other countries, women's organizations, and other stakeholders, to address women's equality issues.

In conclusion, FAFIA believes that the cuts and changes to Status of Women Canada seriously call into question this government's commitment to promoting women's equality and are not in compliance with their international human rights obligations.

For only this would enable the Commission to assume the role that, in his view, belongs to it, namely as a centre for the dissemination of information and "best practice" between the many parties concerned (the member states and regional authorities, professional organisations, consumers, third countries, international organisations and in particular the SMEs operating in the industry), as a coordinator, at Union level, of the acti ...[+++]ons of these many parties - with each other as well as with other Community actions with an impact on tourism - and as an initiator of common policies where appropriate (e.g. in the field of hotel standards and classification) (This is the Commission's fourth option).
