Dans la nuit du 25 décembre 2001, un incendie s'est déclaré dans l'unité n° 2 de la centrale électrique de Agios Dimitrios (Kozani) et a provoqué la dispersion de substances toxiques (polychlorobiphényles [PCB] et Clophen), exposant ainsi à une pollution par la dioxine les travailleurs de la centrale, les pompiers et les habitants de toute la zone avoisinante.
On Christmas night 2001, following an outbreak of fire in unit 2 of the Ayios Dimitrios electricity generating plant, there was a leak of toxic substances, including PCB and chlophen, which exposed the workers, firefighters and the local population to health hazards in the form of dioxins.
