far as the working methods of the EICs are concerned, we are in favour of a continuation of the existing approach. The Commission's proposal to give the EICs the role of 'first stop shop' is an excellent one. However, it can be implemented without a radical reorganisation of the existing network: the way in which the network is currently structured is the result of an historical, not an arbitrary development. The evaluation methods used hitherto are sufficient to permit adjustments where appropriate. However, there is no point i
n starting out from scratch - nor wou ...[+++]ld it be cost-effective. This applies in particular, but not exclusively, to the EICs in the new Member States.
En ce qui concerne le fonctionnement des EIC, le rapporteur plaide en faveur de la poursuite de l'approche retenue jusqu'à présent. La proposition de la Commission tendant à conférer aux EIC le rôle de First Stop Shops est excellente. Elle est toutefois réalisable sans qu'il faille restructurer intégralement le réseau existant. En effet, la composition actuelle du réseau découle d'une évolution historique mais non arbitraire. Les méthodes d'évaluation utilisées jusqu'à présent sont suffisantes pour permettre, le cas échéant, les ajustements.
