Canada's Coast Guard, which has only carried this name since 1962, has a long and proud history stretching back to the first days of the Department of Marine and Fisheries in 1867, later moving over to the new Department of Transport when it was formed in 1936, and now located back with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans since 1995.
