Some cases in point are as follows: operating weather ships — at one time we had such things, by the way — for global atmospheric tropical research off the coast of Africa; escorting the MV Manhattan through the Northwest Passage; delivering relief supplies to hurricane-struck Jamaica; recovery of the Pisces mini-submersible and Air India Flight 172 wreckage in the deep ocean off the Republic of Ireland; and providing Canadian scientific research platforms for polar expeditions over the years.
