Article 11 of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement must guide the development of municipal land use plans (clause 71), and the NPC and municipalities must cooperate to ensure compatibility between municipal land use plans and plans established under Part 2 of the bill (clause 72).

To this end the cooperation will concentrate, in particular, on economic and social development, human resources development, support for enterprises (including privatisation, investment and development of financial services), agriculture and food (including food security), energy (including hydro-electricity), water management and civil nuclear safety, health and the fight against poverty, transport, postal services, electronic ...[+++] communications, tourism, environmental protection, cross-border activities and regional cooperation.

It's intended to ensure that when there are land use changes, especially given that ports can now enter into 99-year leases for their property for anything beyond condominium development.This is going to change the land use practices of the ports as well as adjacent private sector owners of lands next to the ports, as well as municipal land, potentially ...[+++].

The research activities are focusing on sensors and on developing prototypes of services responding to specific types of demand, for example on the global environment, land-use, desertification, disaster management, etc.

They claimed that the municipal land tax base was gradually being eroded by the conversion of agricultural land to wildlife habitat whereas the North American waterfowl management plan, and that is what the member for Selkirk Interlake was talking about, identified five million acres of land in western Canada that was to be returned to wildlife habitat.

Over the coming planning period we will see a number of deliverables in this area, and I'll list a number of examples: completion and publication of a report on the health of our atmosphere—this is a companion report to one you've seen before called Health of our Soils; transfer of the Plant Gene Resources Centre to Saskatoon; registration of a high-protein soybean variety for eastern Canada with significant yield to improvement; registration of prairie spring wheat with significant improvement in protein content; development of new anaerobic digestion technology to handle manure in an environmentally sustainable manner; development ...[+++] of technologies to improve ruminant nutrition—this again has efficiency and waste reduction objectives; development of processes for extracting food or feed additives from various agricultural products; increased access to safe, reliable water supplies for rural areas; maintenance of biological diversity through sustainable management of federally controlled and private range lands; development of a prairie-wide assessment for land-based issues facing the agriculture and agrifood sector; implementation of the national soil and water conservation program; implementation of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's biodiversity strategy; determination of the environmental sustainability of the departmental policies and programs; periodic assessment and reporting of the progress in implementing the department's sustainable development strategy, which is essentially the implementation of the action plan under that strategy; and development and implementation of the department's hog environmental management strategy, HEMS.
