Agrees that the prevention of radicalisation should be a priority for the EU; regrets the lack of more concrete measures in the Agenda to address radicalisation in Europe and calls on the Commission to take urgent and comprehensive action to intensify measures aimed at preventing radicalisation and violent extremism, preventing the spread of extremist ideologies and fostering integration and inclusiveness; calls on the Commission to strengthen the Radicalisation Awareness Network (RAN), which brings together all relevant actors involved in initiatives to address radicalisation at grassroots level, and to clarify the mandate, tasks ...[+++]and scope of the new proposed RAN Centre of Excellence; recommends that its structure also include local and national decision-makers, so as to ensure practical implementation of the recommendations developed by experts and stakeholders; calls for bolder measures to tackle radicalisation on the Internet and the use of Internet websites or social media to spread radical ideologies in Europe; welcomes the creation of an Internet Referral Unit at Europol to support Member States in identifying and removing violent extremist content online with the cooperation of the industry, and calls on the Commission to provide the additional resources necessary for its functioning; regrets the lack of concrete measures to strengthen the role of the Internet as an awareness-raising tool against radicalisation, and in particular to disseminate counter-narratives online in a proactive manner so as to counter terrorist propaganda;

U. whereas according to the Commission, energy efficiency, renewable energy and a smart infrastructure are the three ‘no-regrets options’, given that energy efficiency is the ‘first fuel’ and is the cheapest and fastest way to lower the bills of EU households and industry, since renewable energy is produced in the EU and often near the place of consumption, creating sustainable local jobs, ensuring energy security and helping reach our climate goals, while a smart transmission and distribution network at EU level can prevent overcapacity and blackouts in the Member States;

Notes that network infrastructure such as fast broadband and internet connections are of particular importance and are preconditions for the development of CCIs in that they diminish location handicaps, and that technology is a vital driving force behind these industries; welcomes the actions envisaged to strengthen the role of CCIs as a catalyst for innovation and structural change under the ‘Innovation Union’ and ‘Digital Agenda for Europe’ flagship initiatives; emphasises the role of ICTs in CCIs and the ‘creative nexus’ between investment, technology, innovation, entrepreneurship and trade, and invites the Commission and the Mem ...[+++]ber States to promote access to, and encourage the use of, new ICT technologies in the cultural and creative sector, to support broadband infrastructure and, once comprehensive basic broadband coverage has been attained in Europe, to provide rural areas too with adequate fast and ultra-fast networks and other forms of cost-effective internet connections, with a view to ensuring their balanced development in the long term;
