Né à New Aberdeen, tout près de Glace Bay, Harold «Gus» Edwards travaillait dans les mines du Cap-Breton lorsque la Première Guerre mondiale a éclaté. M. Born in New Aberdeen, just outside of Glace Bay, Harold " Gus'' Edwards was working the mines in Cape Breton at the onset of World War I. Mr. Edwards promptly joined the Royal Naval Air Service and was soon flying missions along German lines, providing support for ground troops.
