Regulation (EC) No 853/2004 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 29 April 2004 laying down specific hygiene rules for food of animal origin (7) provides that food business operators are not to place on the market a product of animal origin handled in an establishment subject to approval in accordance with that Regulation, unless it has either a health mark applied in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 854/2004 or, when that Regulation does ...[+++]not provide for the application of a health mark, an identification mark applied in accordance with Annex II to Regulation (EC) No 853/2004. The meat preparations and meat products containing pigmeat produced under the channelling system should therefore be marked with the identification mark provided for in Section I of Annex II to Regulation (EC) No 853/2004, in order to be permitted for dispatch to other Member States.

During the implementation of Regulation (EC) No 178/2002, Regulation (EC) No 852/2004 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 29 April 2004 on the hygiene of foodstuffs (2), Regulation (EC) No 853/2004 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 29 April 2004 laying down specific hygiene rules for food of animal origin (3) and Regulation (EC) No 854/2004 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 29 April 2004 laying down specific rules for the organisation of official controls on ...[+++]products of animal origin intended for human consumption (4), experience has shown that food business operators do not generally possess the information needed to ensure that their systems identifying the handling or storage of foods is adequate, in particular in the sector of food of animal origin.

4. Food business operators importing food containing both products of plant origin and processed products of animal origin shall ensure that the processed products of animal origin contained in such food satisfy the requirements of paragraphs 1 to 3.
