Face à ces graves perturbations économiques et financières, les autorités chypriotes ont officiellement sollicité une aide financière sous la forme d’un prêt du Fonds européen de stabilité financière/Mécanisme européen de stabilité (MES), le 25 juin 2012, ainsi que du Fonds monétaire international (FMI), afin de permettre à l’économie chypriote de renouer avec une croissance durable, d’assurer le bon fonctionnement du système bancaire et de sauvegarder la stabilité financière de l’Union et de la zone euro.
In view of these severely adverse economic and financial conditions, the Cypriot authorities officially requested financial assistance under the terms of a loan by the European Financial Stability Facility/European Stability Mechanism (ESM) on 25 June 2012, as well as from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), with a view to supporting the return of Cyprus’ economy to sustainable growth, ensuring a properly-functioning banking system and safeguarding financial stability in the Union and in the euro area.
