Seul l'avenir nous dira si cette entreprise doit, à terme, s'articuler ou non avec la toute nouvelle Communauté sud-américaine au travers du processus de convergence du Mercosur et de la CAN. Cela dit, quelle que soit la formule finale, il ne fait aucun doute que le Mercosur tout comme la CAN se trouveront à la base de toute réorganisation future de l'espace politique, économique et institutionnel sud-américain, ainsi qu'à celle de toute zone de libre-échange éventuelle au sein de ce même espace.
Whether or not this is eventually expressed in the South American Community of Nations, recently created through a merger between Mercosur and the CAN, only time will tell, but whatever form it takes in the end, there is no doubt that both Mercosur and the CAN will form the basis of any future reorganisation of the South American political, economic and institutional landscape and of any free trade area that may be created within it.
