G. whereas international sports bodies such as FIFA must uphold the highest standards of governance, transparency and accountability, as is expected of our domestic sports bodies, and follow the example of the International Olympic Committee, in particular, which successfully implemented significant governance reforms following the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Games corruption scandal and pressure from corporate sponsors, sports officials and members of the US Congress;

As the committee chair said, I represent the Canadian Labour Congress where I also act as representative in charge of Africa and HIV/AIDS in the International Department.

On motion of Janko Peric, it was agreed, that pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(c) that the Sub-Committee, in its study of the matters relating to the proposing, promoting, monitoring and assessing of initiatives aimed at the integration and equality of disabled persons in all sectors of Canadian Society be authorized to attend the International Congress – Inclusion by Design, on June 1, 2001 in Montreal, to participate in a round table meeting of the Congress plenary speakers and Sub-Committee members and that the necessary staff accompany the Sub-Committee.

It stated that the Soviet government refused to acknowledge to the international community the starvation in Ukraine and turned down the assistance offered by various countries and international relief agencies, including the International Committee of the Red Cross.
