points out that there was an important discussion at the level of the EESC's bodies and stresses the urgent need to guarantee an adequate minimum income in the European Union under a framework directive, with the aim of effectively combating poverty by facilitating labour market inclusion, as called for by the Committee of the Regions (1) and a range of anti-poverty organisations (2), and calls on the Commission to undertake concerted action in response to the resolution adopted by the European Parliament in 2011 (3);

The Commission has cooperated with finance ministries and supervisors, notably through the Economic and Finance Committee as well as through the Committees of Supervisors (Committee of European Banking Supervisors, Committee of European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Supervisors and Committee of European Securities Regulators) in order to ensure, as much as possible, concerted actions by Member States and the European Institutions.

11. Is concerned about the lack of progress as regards the gender pay gap between women and men over the last few years; urges the Commission and the Member States, therefore, to assess the strategies and actions in this area and to establish, where necessary in cooperation with the social partners, any new measures or new approaches in the implementation of existing measures, to improve the situation; supports, in this regard, the suggestion of the Advisory Committee on Equal Opportunities to render existing European legislation on the subject more stringent by inserting a requirement for employers to conduct wage audits and draw up a ...[+++]ction plans in order to close the pay gap; stresses the need for concerted action, especially in the context of the new cycle of the European Strategy for Growth and Jobs, and for common principles of flexicurity;
