Les résultats de l’étude ACCOMPLISH ont été publiés dans le New England Journal of Medicine du 4 décembre 2008 [ N Engl J Med 2008; 359: 2417-28 ]. Il s’agit d’une étude randomisée sur le traitement de l’hypertension dans une population à risque élevé (âge moyen: 68 ans; tous les patients avaient des antécédents de cardiopathie ischémique, d’artériopathie périphérique, d’accidents vasculaires cérébraux, d’hypertrophie ventriculaire gauche ou de diabète; environ 40 % des patients avaient été traités avant la randomisation par au moins trois antihypertenseurs).

In de New England Journal of Medicine van 4 december 2008 [ N Engl J Med 2008; 359: 2417-28 ] verschenen de resultaten van de ACCOMPLISH-studie, een gerandomiseerde studie over de behandeling van hypertensie bij een hoogrisicopopulatie (gemiddelde leeftijd 68 jaar; alle patiënten hadden antecedenten van ischemisch hartlijden, perifeer vaatlijden, cerebrovasculair accident, linkerventrikelhypertrofie of diabetes; ongeveer 40% van de patiënten werd vóór randomisatie behandeld met 3 of meer antihypertensiva).

Ce qui est surprenant, c’est que cette augmentation était due à une augmentation du nombre de prescriptions de sartans (de 8,6 % à 15,9 %). Les auteurs de l’éditorial attribuent ce fait à la publication et à la promotion de l’étude LIFE, une étude qui a été réalisée auprès d’une population sélective de patients (patients hypertendus avec des signes d’hypertrophie ventriculaire gauche à l’ECG) et dans laquelle un bénéfice en termes de morbidité et mortalité cardio-vasculaires a été observé avec le losartan par rapport à l’aténolol [voir Folia d' août 2002 ].

Opvallend is dat deze stijging te wijten was aan een stijging van het aantal voorschriften van de sartanen (van 8,6% naar 15,9%): de auteurs van het editoriaal wijten dit aan de publicatie en promotie van de LIFE-studie, een studie die werd uitgevoerd bij een geselecteerde patiëntenpopulatie (hypertensiepatiënten met linkerventrikelhypertrofie op ECG) waarbij een voordeel werd gezien in termen van cardiovasculaire morbiditeit en mortaliteit van losartan op atenolol [zie Folia augustus 2002 ].
