arine search and rescue centre in St. John's. The petitioners point out that this decision takes away a very importan
t search and rescue function where the highest reports of distress incidents occur in Canada, responding to an average of 500 incidents a year, saving the lives of 600 people in

Monsieur le Président, je présente aujourd'hui deux pétitions d'habitants de Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador qui demandent au gouvernement de revenir sur sa décision de fermer le centre de recherche et de sauvetage maritime à St. John's. Les pétitionnaires font remarquer que cette décision élimine un service de recherche et de sauvetage très important, à un endroit où survient le plus grand nombre d'incidents au Canada, qui répond en moyenne à 500 appels de détresse par année et qui sauve la vie de 600 personnes en danger.
