Acknowledges the right of all media to access and report on organised sporting events of great interest to the public in order to guarantee the right of the public to receive such news and information in news programmes; acknowledges the right of the Member States to be able to take measures to protect the right to information and to ensure wide access by the public to television coverage of national or non-national sporting events of major importance for society, such as the Olympic Games, the Football World Cup and the European Football Championship;

The Commission points out that future legislation will seek a balance between legal certainty for passengers and for airlines, while guaranteeing more rights for passengers. They must be able to obtain accurate and up-to-date information on airlines' performance so that they can make informed choices.

Firstly, the Commission would draw attention to the importance of the freedom of the televised press and information and the right of all European citizens to receive the television broadcasts of their choice, even if these come from non-member countries, subject to compliance with the relevant Community laws in force.

29. Encourages cooperation with existing regional or trans-regional television channels and organisations, such as the EBU (European Broadcasting Union), CIRCOM (European Association of Regional Televisions) and the international press agencies, and support for new channels that might act as effective local relays for transmissions by a European channel; calls on the Commission to conduct a feasibility-study on a 'European C-SPAN' to provide the general public with relevant news and information on European Union affairs;

28. Welcomes the Commission's clearly maintained commitment, in respect of Article 22 of the 'Television without frontiers' directive, to sponsoring a study of parental control systems for television; expresses its appreciation of the quality of the study of parental control systems carried out and the wealth of data it contains;
